September is a beautiful month and usually a low season in Mexico City, its also our independence month and some festivities take place.
WEATHER
This is the end of our rainy season, but we still have some sporadic rains usually between 7:00 and 8:00 pm, so they won´t mess up your day. Just consider a raincoat for the night outs and you´ll be fine, other than that the weather is perfectly sunny and hot during the day and slightly chilly at night. September is one of my favorite months here.
THIGS TO CONSIDER
This is our independence month, some festivities take place at the historic center main square so if you are staying there you´ll have a lot of traffic but also you´ll be in the middle of the celebration. We usually host a huge independence party at the Zocalo hosted by the president himself, you can find lots of Mexican Food, and cool flags and decoration. Just remember it´s illegal to drink on the street and you can be taken by the police.
COOL THINGS TO DO AND SEE
- Independence Party – You don´t need to be with the crowds at the historical center, you can also attend one of the many theme parties restaurants and nightclubs host on September 15TH at night. If you are spending the night at the historic center try to make a reservation at El Balcón del Zócalo for the best view and food, just consider that it´s always fully booked so make it way in advance.
- Chile en Nogada – This is a traditional dish that you can find since August sometimes, our favorite places to taste it are Testal, París 18 and Nicos, the dish is basically a poblano chile stuffed with minced meat (pork and beef) pine nuts, almonds and raisins, heirloom peaches, apples and pears, covered with a sauce made with walnuts and then sprinkled with pomegranate and sometimes cilantro.
